INHALE……….EXHALE
INHALE……….EXHALE
INHALE……….EXHALE (How do your feel?) I feel great!
Do you feel hungry after a good workout? Or are you less hungry after your workout?
Which is it? Does exercising make you more hungry or suppress you appetite? Well, unfortunately, the answer is not clear as crystal, as there are many factors make predicting the effects of exercise on hunger and food intake. A tricky situation…. And here is why….
Exercise generally suppresses appetite by lowering circulating concentrations of appetite-stimulating hormones or raising the concentration hormones that cause lack of appetite, as a result you feel less hungry. Do you think the number of hours after exercise is a hunger factor? The answer is yes; another factor is the type of physical activity (exercise) you are doing. Check this out; the body’s core temperature is also a factor, why you ask, because exercising in heat suppresses the appetite more than in cold.
There have been metabolic studies that have shown that during exercise and for several hours after, you will probably feel less hungry. But, keep in mind, your physiological, your genetics, and your behavioral factors also cause differences in the way your body will respond to exercise.
Some people compensate minimally for the energy they expend during exercise and they lose lose lose. Others compensate more fully and lose only a small amount of weight. And then there are the “unhappy” few that overcompensate and actually gain weight. Even those who lose little weight usually lose some body fat, as a result lowering the risks for obesity related disease….
Here’s the deal…it is important to understand the relationship between calories burned during exercise and the calories contained in the foods we eat….it is soooo easy to overestimate the first and underestimate the second.
One point to remember is that EXERCISE has many many health benefits and helps prevent almost every major disease, even when the goal is not to lose weight…yes there are some people out there that are content with their weight…good for you. Pay attention to YOUR BODY and how it feels after physical exercise, and if you feel hungry step back and think about a HEALTHY snack that can satisfy your hunger without the additional excess calories….Dr. Joy recommends a BANANA – YES as they are one of the world’s finest foods for providing fuel for energy. Bananas contain a unique blend of vitamins, minerals and good carbs that foster a quick and efficient conversion to useable fuel. Leave the Potato Chips alone!
